The Pedestrian Poem

"The Lost Pedestrian"
-by Michael Chen

Standing upon an intersection in a mid November night,
there stood a pedestrian who was lost.
Who had lost opportunities, friends, family,
and love.
He stood there in the frosty air,
thinking what had happened,
what had been lost.
He comes to realize that it is too late,
he had been wondering that for what seems like over a millennium,

Everywhere he goes he sees dark windows,
but not completely, for there seem to be
a tiny flicker of light, barely visible,
to human eyes.
He would listen, look and continue on,
as if nothing had happened,
nothing did happen.
His existence ceased to exist.

Suddenly, a fierce white light shines upon him.
Confused, he looks back.
His days of wondering the streets are over.
The machine is taking him to a place,
far far away.

As they sped through the chill November night,
with empty riverbeds, empty streets, empty sidewalks.
turning smaller as time goes, disappearing slowly,
just like the pedestrian...
